Conversion Coatings

Specialist conversion coating services

Conversion coatings provide corrosion protection and increased surface hardness, add decorative colour, and are used as paint primers by converting the part surface into the coating with a chemical or electro-chemical process.

Amfin has an established reputation as a professional accomplished metal finishing company our capabilities allow Amfin to be a one stop shop for your surface finishing requirements reducing lead times and transit costs.

Who we work with

We're trusted to provide metal finishing services by companies across manufacturing sectors, including aerospace, defence, rail, medical, automotive and energy.

Some of the conversion coatings we offer

Alocrom 1200

Alocrom 1200 is a chemical conversion coating commonly used in manufacturing to improve corrosion resistance of Aluminium and Aluminium alloy components and to aid adhesion for paints and adhesives.

Process uses Hexavalent chromium and has a REACH sunset date.

Alocrom 1200

Surtec 650 (Chrome free conversion coating)

Surtec 650 is a chemical conversion coating to improve corrosion resistance of Aluminium and Aluminium alloys and to aid adhesion for paints and adhesives.

Process offers a chrome free alternative to Alocrom 1200.

SURTEC 650

Chromating of Magnesium

Chromating of Magesium alloys has been used has typically been used to improve corrosion resistance and adherence of organic finishes such as paint.

Amfins approvals for Chromate

  • DTD911
  • RPS22

Phosphate coatings

Phosphate coatings, also known in the surface treatment industry as Parkerizing is a chemical treatment commonly used on steels and iron.

The phosphate coating to provide a level of corrosion protection to material, give good adhesion for paint coatings and in certain cases to give anti-wear properties to sliding surfaces.

Phosphate coatings can be sealed with oil to enhance corrosion resistance.
